Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997 to a Hariyanvi family in Panipat, Haryana. He is the first track and field athlete to win a gold at the Olympics in Javelin Throw. He serves in the Indian Army as a JCO. Chopra is the second athlete from India to win a gold medal at the Olympics after Abhinav Bindra in 2008. Neeraj won a gold medal on 7th August 2021, to honour him, The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has announced it as Javelin throw day. Sportle salutes the golden boy.

MIRABAI CHANNU

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu belongs to Nongpok Kakching, a place near Imphal, Manipur. Channu faced several financial crises and grew in a condition where family struggled for survival. She used to pick up firewood bundles that his brother failed to lift. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, she was unable to finish, but she did not stop. She made lots of effort and returned, finishing on the podium with a silver medal in the women’s 49kg weight category at the Tokyo Olympics. RAVI KUMAR DAHIYA

Ravi Kumar Dahiya’s story is not different from other athletes, he has worked extremely hard for the silver medal. He was born in Nahri, Sonipat district of Haryana in 1997. His family was very supportive and his father always used to deliver him dairy products which was a major part of his diet. Dahiya being an athlete and great wrestler asked the government for good schools in his state so that children get a good education.

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is the second athlete from India to win gold at two consecutive Olympics after Shushil Kumar and the first female athlete to do so.
